ANDOVER, MA – Democratic congressional candidate Dan Koh issued the following statement in response to the Supreme Court’s decision in Janus v. AFSCME:

“This ruling is a direct assault on working families in the Third District and across the country. We need to stand up, fight back, and re-affirm our commitment to the organized labor movement. For far too long, our elected officials have abandoned union members. This can’t stand.

Unions built this country. Union families are the backbone of our communities. Unions fight every day for workplace protections, collective bargaining rights, and fair compensation.

Now more than ever, we need to stand by our union brothers and sisters. We need to create an economy where everyone can get ahead, an economy with a $15 minimum wage, strong unions, and pension security.

In February, I was proud to stand in solidarity with the labor movement at the SEIU’s rally against Janus v. AFSCME, and I am truly honored to have the support of AFSCME Local 1703, Local 1705, and Local 1730. If I have the honor of serving in Congress, union members and working people will always have a seat at the table.”
